an experience
Thursday, December 14th, 2006i was at the indonesian embassy the other day… it opens at 9am but there was already a crowd outside, kinda like a mob of indonesians by the road side waiting for the gates to open..
meanwhile, there were some plain clothes men walking around telling ppl wat to do…how to line up n wat they need..
who gave these men authority? wat r they?..they’re more like working by the roadside of the embasy..probably forgot to wear their uniforms n forgot to bring brooms to sweep the roadside..bugs.
the guards made single lines of groups squad in front the gate before letting each single file group in…many were there to renew their passport.
students and visas got privileges, they were ushered in the ‘fast-lane’ . n becuz i’m chinese n probably looked like an indo student (dat ‘looked’ ‘rich’ compared many of those dat were there)…i was approached 3 times by plainclothes roadside bugs if i needed anything..stupid fuck..i’m just here with my nanny to collect her passport.
then..mat salleh’s were also ushered in the ‘fast-lane’. wtf.
y do we prejudice against indons thinking dat ALL of them are criminals? no wonder their a bunch of angry ppl…they were treated badly and unjustly. inside the embassy…there were no numbering system like our government departments.. they all queued all the way to only 6 open counters. there were about 300 ppl..on long benches dat led all the way to the counters. it was stuffy..hot n kids were crying, woman both old n young was standing..men smoked away gudang garam. they looked more like inmates to me than residing immigrants. probably compared with the blacks..these are no hurt at all but we live in a first world country with a third world mentality.
as an individual adult, we know we have to gain respect n if we behave like a child, ppl will treat us like children. but as a nation, the country must first be civilized and treat the ppl civilized in order to gain civilized rakyat. as a nation, we humans are hardly thought to hold together …all ppl can think of is themselves..the closest would be family n friends. wat about issues dat relate to the morale standards of our nation? y do ppl always discriminate?..if we know someone we use ‘dat fella’ but if we don’t…we always hear ‘dat indian’ or ‘dat malay’ or ‘dat chinese’. in the states, it’s the other way round, ppl describe races with colors..since when colors are a human race???
back to the embassy, it took us 7 hrs to collect a new passport which was already paid for n ready for collection. again, no numbering,..officers just randomly called ppl’s name prior to collection. who knows who’s next?..if u miss ur name, they’ll scold u n tell u to wait somemore…why ah?…so they gonna call out everybody’s name prior to collection date everyday??? so hardworking.
